Rugby World Cup 2015 Gloucester

2015 is a big year for Gloucestershire as the city of Gloucester will be hosting the Rugby World Cup. I was asked to do a publicity shot of the main man charged with arranging it, former Gloucester rugby captain, Adam Balding.  Adam is Gloucester's co-ordinator for all the preparations, so as you can imagine a very busy man indeed. Luckily he spared me the time and helped carry my kit to the top of Gloucester Cathedral for this shot.

Aerospace Apprentice Engineers

I've recently been working on a project for Gloucestershire Engineering Training they have been designing and delivering engineering and training programmes for large and small employers for the past 37 years.  They are the only training facility in the County managed by professionals from within Manufacturing & Engineering industries.

Gloucester Docks Long Exposure

I've recently been working on a project about living and working in Gloucestershire. My client has a list of the counties features that need photographing, the assignment is taking me all over the county and it's reminding me how lucky I am to live here. A couple of nights ago I popped over to Gloucester Docks and took this 30 second exposure picture. Because it was very windy the water was moving and this makes the water appear smooth. By using the self timer and a tripod lashed to a lamp post I could get the rest of the picture sharp despite the very long exposure.

Small Business Photography in Gloucester

I recently photographed the cool looking biker dude Steve of Gloucester based Cathedral Flowers.
He runs the family wholesale florist business in the centre of Gloucester. When they first started they trekked all the way to Covent Garden at the crack of dawn to buy premium flowers twice a week. Now they purchase their flowers directly from Alsmeer auctions in the Netherlands and selected worldwide growers, as well as local flower growers within Gloucestershire. Steve keeps in personal contact with their suppliers and growers, most of whom they have worked with for many years.

Hospital Art.

Last week I was working for Willis Newson, the UK’s leading independent arts consultancy working with health, community and education partners in public spaces. We were photographing many art installations around the Bristol Royal Infirmary, including these amazing Acoustic Baffles that will stop echoes around the central atrium.

Queen's Award

Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire Dame Janet Trotter visited Quedgeley-based Prima Dental, which designs and manufactures dental drills and precision dental instruments, to present the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade in recognition of the company’s substantial growth in overseas trade.

FSB Award for Cotswold Business

It was great to meet the team at Equifeast who have beaten hundreds of entrants to win the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) Innovation of the Year Award. The family business design, manufacture and market nutritional supplements for horses and has tripled in UK sales in the past three years. It has brought to market over five new products and count riding pro Harry Meade and Olympian Laura Tomlinson as loyal customers.

The Montague Inn

I often have to photograph food for my clients and usually I get to eat it after which is fab and real perk of the job. But it's usually small portions of posh food on massive plates. So I was especially pleased when the award winning chef Mike Jones asked if I would taste test his new menu, which included the most delicious pies.

Hartpury College Brochure

I had a smashing day at Hartpury College near Gloucester the other day. They wanted some pictures of their activities that could be used in a brochure, website and other promotional stuff. I started off photographing one of their former students who is now a Forestry Commission warden in the Forest of Dean. It was pouring with rain and we were getting eaten alive by midges so I didn't hang around, I quickly popped up a light stand and got a few shots that I'm really pleased with. The rain meant that the light was very soft and with a little bit of off camera flash the colours become saturated as well as the photographer. Conditions were a lot easier at the college and I got to spend a pleasant couple of hours meeting photographing the students with a whole host of animals.

University of Gloucestershire Brochure

Here's a picture I took for a corporate brochure that the University of Gloucestershire is producing. Joe was a great model and quite happy to stand still for 5 minutes whilst I messed about setting up 3 lights for this shot. It was mid afternoon and very bright, so I had to use a lot of flash power from the speedlites to overpower the daylight and make the sky look a bit moody. I also put a yellow gel on the back light to warm it up a bit. The client was very happy, if I get to see the brochure I'll pop a copy up on here.

Sophie, Countess of Wessex

I had the great pleasure to photograph Sophie Wessex yesterday when she was visiting Meningitis Now headquarters in Stroud, Gloucestershire. Her husband Prince Edward was there too, but Sophie was the star of the show. She has been patron of the charity for 10 years and I could tell she was deeply moved by the plight of some of the parents she met whilst touring the building. I'm a big fan of the Royal family and over the years I've been lucky enough to photograph most of them. Sophie reminded me a lot of Princess Diana who I photographed a lot in the late 80's and early 90's.
